What is a Database?

DATABASES

What is a database? It is a collection of data and information organized, stored and accessible to patrons with a library card. In addition, your child can access databases in our school library. They can do it by logging on with their own library card or they can use the username and password provided at school.

Why use them? Why not just use Google or Bing?

Someone (usually a librarian) with the knowledge in a particular subject area will organize information under a subject area in a very complex but orderly manner so that students, parents, teachers, or anyone with a need to learn, to research, or gather data can do it in an efficient and orderly manner.

Someone else does the work for you so you don't have to wade through the millions of websites that you will find when you "google it."

Recommended Sites for Student Uses:
